The first printers' proof of the Declaration of Independence – with Thomas Jefferson's inverted commas!

Great story here of how, on the evening of 4 July 1776, John Dunlap's type compositors were hyper-accurate in recreating the handwritten manuscript by Thomas Jefferson, which Charles Thomson had brought to the print shop, reproduced his "double diacriticals" as inverted commas.
