Mavis Staples and Jeff Tweedy

Great footage, two great musicians. When two voices, an old guitar, and a hand-held video camera can do this with an old Creedence Clearwater Revival song it fair sickens ye!

Mark, very nice post. The Tweedy family of southern Illinois origin, I think is Jeff's people. My grandmother was Sarah Pearl Tweedy, one of that family. They are an interesting old Scots-Irish family. My grandmother had the Second Sight BTW, very bizarre phenomenon. The Tweedys were and are very musical, they made fiddles in the later 1800s through mid 1900s. They are considered very fine instruments if you can find one and afford it. There is going to be a Tweedy reunion this Spring, in Mena Arkansas.

Barry - that's great, another one we can claim! I've been a fan of Jeff's music since discovering his band Uncle Tupelo many years ago - they've recorded some great Appalachian and old-timey classics in among their own material. The Mermaid Avenue albums with Billy Bragg (of unrecorded Woody Guthrie songs) are excellent too.
